Day 4

Day 4 Route with photo locations marked

0ur fourth day was still good weather all day. Stop A was at Ingjaldsholl Church, one of many cute old churches scattered around the landscape. It gave me a chance to try out focus stacking to get an image focused from the dandelions in the foreground to the church behind. Stop B was at Selvallafoss falls, which was cool because you could walk behind and take photos through the falls. The evening timing was good for the lighting. Next we tried to find a good place to check out Berserkjahraun Lava Beds, but mostly failed. We did get to the edge, where there were many interesting plants adapted to the mossy and lichen covered beds.

On the way into Stykkisholmur (Stop D) we visited with some of the many Icelandic horses seen around the countryside, before heading to the harbor and hiking up to the lighthouse just before sunset. Tomorrow we get on the ferry in the harbor to head to the Westfjords region.

Berserkjahraun Lava Beds are covered in fragile moss.

Thyme plants are common here and particularly like the lava at Berserkjahraun Lava Beds.
