Day 10
Day 10 was a nice clear day. We made a stop of the coastal bluffs northeast of Husavik to check out the birds nesting, including seeing our first puffins. I only include a photo of a fuzzy gull chick since much better puffin photos are coming. The next stop was at Asbyrgi Canyon, which is made of vertical basalt cliffs that are thought to be cut by a catastrophic flood event at the end of the last Ice Age.
The next stop was at a series of large waterfalls including Dettifoss, which is called the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Upstream is Selfoss and downsteam is Hafragilsfoss. Finally, as we crossed over the mountain pass coming into Seydisfjordur, we stopped and saw glacially cut rocks and striations overlooking the fjord below.
