Day 12
Day 12 started out with fairly pleasant weather that was predicted to deteriorate through the day (which it did), so we started with a lovely hike to a series of waterfalls just outside of Seydisfjordur on the way out of town (Stop A). After the walk we continued south along the East Fjords region. The mountains are higher and more rugged here than in the West Fjords, but unfortunately the low cloud level obscured many of the peaks. Along Reydarfjordur we did get some decent views and also saw quite a bit of sustainable fish farming of Atlantic Salmon at Stop B. At Stop C in Stodvarfjordur we stopped at a community craft shop, and I photographed the old town church that has been converted into a guesthouse. The cliffs at the point near Djupivagur extended into the clouds and the little fishing village had picturesque old buildings accompanied by some modern art sculptures, which are quite common in the small towns. The rain really settled in the rest of the trip and finally broke near sunset after we arrived at our guesthouse in Stafafell.
