Other Feathered Friends

Juvenile Kittiwake, Borgarfjordur Eystri. The adults are largely plain white birds, but the juveniles have very pretty markings.

Whimbrel; Drangsnes, West Fjords. Unlike Whimbrels in California, which you only tend to see in coastal marshes, the Whimbrels in Iceland are seen feeding in the fields where they are one of the most common birds.

Arctic Terns fishing at Hellissandur, west Iceland. Just east of this town, fledglings of these terns sit on the main road waiting to be fed by their parents. Even though the speed limit is a slow 20 kph because of this, cars still need to blow their horn to get the birds off the road.
