The fledging of our backyard owls - 2021
In the spring of 2021, during the midst of the pandemic, a pair of owls nested in a large eucalyptus tree visible from my back yard. They had two chicks that we nicknamed String Cheese and Bartholomew. Their life through fledging is documented in these photos.

We first saw the baby owls in the nest on April 11. This photo is of the owlet pair while still confined to the nest on May 9. Note the adult owl on the branch to the upper right. It was nerve-racking watching the owlets jumping from branch to branch while testing their wings while nearly 100 feet above the ground.
